Position Overview

The Central London Community Health Trust is seeking a proactive and forward-thinking Senior Clinical Pharmacist to lead our Medicines Optimisation Services. This role will be pivotal in enhancing clinical services across the Trust, including the supervision of pharmacists within primary care networks.

The successful candidate will assist the Chief Pharmacist in executing the strategic recommendations outlined in the NHS long-term plan while further developing our services.

The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will also oversee the team's operations, including staff management, task prioritization, and identifying the organization's future requirements. Additionally, the role will involve acting on behalf of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and Chief Pharmacist as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will be accountable for:

  • Leading the establishment and integration of clinical medicines optimisation services across various settings, including care homes and primary care networks.
  • Managing multiple direct reports effectively.
  • Providing expert guidance, support, and training on policies and practices to healthcare professionals in community care and associated agencies.
  • Contributing to the Trust's clinical governance and patient safety initiatives through interventions that enhance the management of medicines across all relevant practice areas.
  • Aiding in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive medicines management service tailored for vulnerable populations in the community.
  • Acting in the capacity of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and/or Chief Pharmacist as required.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess significant post-registration experience in both primary and secondary care, with a robust understanding of prescribing and medicines management challenges across various sectors. Essential skills include excellent decision-making, problem-solving abilities, compassion, flexibility, and outstanding communication and time management skills. The ability to foster relationships with diverse health and social care professionals is crucial.

This position requires travel between multiple sites, necessitating flexibility as the organization expands. Access to a vehicle is desirable but not mandatory.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Vocational Master's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of prescribing, pharmacy, and medicines management issues.
  • Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification at diploma level or equivalent experience through relevant short courses.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Skills in physical assessment.
  • Qualification as an independent prescriber.

Essential Experience

  • Extensive post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in clinical pharmacy, drug information, or prescribing advice within a hospital environment.
  • Background in both primary (primary care networks) and secondary care.
  • Experience in mentoring and training others.
  • Proven experience in managing a team or service with multiple direct reports.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in financial management, including budget setting and monitoring.
  • Background in care homes and domiciliary medicines optimisation services.
