Role Overview: Companion Volunteer for Individuals with Sight Loss

Location: Maidstone

Commitment: 3-4 hours weekly

As a Companion Volunteer, you will significantly enhance the lives of individuals seeking companionship. We are in search of a compassionate individual to assist a person experiencing sight loss in engaging with the community. This could involve activities such as leisurely walks, dining out, or accompanying them to organized events like shopping or recreational activities. This role promises to be both fulfilling and enjoyable.

You will undergo an introductory phase to establish a rapport with the individual we support, fostering trust and understanding. Our dedicated team in Maidstone is highly experienced and will provide guidance throughout this initial period.

  • A good sense of humor, excellent conversational skills, and active listening abilities
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Kindness, empathy, and patience
  • Ability to handle information in accordance with data protection and confidentiality standards
  • Capability to assist with sighted guidance and orientation when necessary
Please note that applicants must be over 18 years old to be considered for this position. To express your interest, please complete the application form provided. To ensure the safety of those we support, a DBS check and two satisfactory references will be required prior to confirming your volunteer role.
