At Alstom, we are committed to enhancing transport networks and facilitating mobility. Our extensive portfolio includes high-speed trains, metros, monorails, trams, and comprehensive systems, services, infrastructure, signalling, and digital mobility solutions. With a workforce of 80,000, we are dedicated to promoting greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting urban areas while reducing carbon emissions and reliance on personal vehicles.

As the leading provider of new trains, train services, and signalling infrastructure projects in the UK & Ireland, Alstom has constructed nearly 40% of the UK's mainline train fleet, along with all the fleets currently operational with London Underground and Dublin's LUAS.

We are spearheading the UK's largest train programme in a generation – AVENTRA – for seven of the country's major train operating companies, and we are preparing to manufacture the next generation of Greater Dublin's commuter trains, DART+, as well as 54 high-speed trains for HS2 in collaboration with partners. Alstom also maintains 66% of the UK fleet through its Services division and is recognized as the leading provider of signalling and infrastructure solutions in the UK.

Your Role

As a Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on Aventra Units. You will oversee vehicle inspections in accordance with vehicle maintenance instructions (VMI's) and conduct various maintenance examination tasks to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and defect-free trains. You will also be accountable for maintaining a safe, efficient, and professional work environment for yourself and your team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute technical maintenance in compliance with established standards and maintenance instructions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all maintenance documentation prior to validation by the Shift Production Manager (SPM).
  • Report to the Shift Production Manager regarding the identification of outstanding work at the end of each shift.
  • Operate powered plant, lifting, and mechanical handling equipment.
  • Identify and report any issues related to processes, tools, and documentation to the Shift Production Manager or Facility Management Team.
  • Highlight potential health and safety concerns.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and depot procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area at all times.
  • Support the SPM in achieving quality, waste reduction, delivery, and environmental health and safety targets.
  • Prepare detailed reports on specific fault-finding investigations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate them to the Engineering team.
  • Continuously seek ways to enhance operational processes.
  • Assist in coaching team members on best practices and quality standards, and support the SPM in identifying training needs.

Candidate Profile

We prioritize passion and attitude over extensive experience. While we do not expect you to possess every skill, the following qualifications will contribute to your success in this role:

  • NVQL3 Qualification or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated excellence in work ethic and interpersonal interactions.
  • Hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Possession of safety-critical competencies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Responsible for the accurate completion of all documentation prior to supervisor validation.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Benefits

We offer a competitive remuneration package, including 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell holiday. Additional benefits include healthcare contributions, life assurance, a robust pension scheme, and a variety of flexible benefits tailored to your lifestyle.

Alstom is a leader in the mobility sector, addressing the most intriguing challenges for future mobility. We value innovative and inquisitive individuals who are passionate about collaborating to redefine mobility, making it smarter and more sustainable. We are committed to fostering an agile, inclusive, and responsible culture where diverse individuals are provided opportunities to learn, grow, and advance in their careers across various functions and locations.

Alstom is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace where all employees are encouraged to reach their full potential, and individual differences are respected. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by local law.

As a 'Disability Confident' employer, we will interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria of the job description. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements for all roles, subject to operational requirements.
