London, Greater London, United Kingdom Synnovis Analytics Full time

Position Overview

Are you a seasoned HCPC registered Clinical Scientist specializing in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics seeking a new opportunity?

Do you possess a strong interest in Molecular HLA typing?

We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Clinical Scientist to become the Head of the DNA section within our Clinical Transplantation Laboratory. The successful applicant will be required to maintain HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, along with extensive experience in molecular typing techniques and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Our Clinical Transplantation Laboratory is accredited to both ISO 15189 and EFI standards, and is among the leading laboratories in the UK for solid organ transplantation, having supported numerous transplant procedures in the past year and currently expanding our services. We deliver a comprehensive H&I service to various adult and pediatric transplant centers, covering a range of transplant programs including renal, pancreas, cardiothoracic, islet, liver, and multi-visceral transplants. As a referral center for both national and international cases, we collaborate closely with transplant teams to provide expert advice on complex transplant scenarios, including ABO and HLA antibody incompatible transplants. Additionally, we conduct HLA and disease association testing and support various research initiatives.

The laboratory employs a variety of PCR-based methods for HLA genotyping, including NGS, SSOP, qPCR, and SSP. We utilize Luminex and flow cytometric techniques for antibody analysis and patient crossmatching, supported by a specialized Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and a Quality Management System (QMS).

About Our Organization

Our department operates from Monday to Friday, with core hours from 9 AM to 5 PM, and also provides a 24/7 on-call service. The successful candidate will be expected to work a full-time schedule and, once adequately trained, participate in the on-call service, which currently operates on a 1 in 7 rotation across two schedules.

Joining our team means becoming part of a small, friendly, and dedicated group of scientists working in a specialized area of pathology. We offer training and development opportunities through our Scientific Learning and Development fund and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities, including funding for various qualifications and conference attendance. We are also recognized as a training laboratory for several schemes and can support higher training for suitable candidates.

Professional Development

Our organization provides numerous learning opportunities through our Development program, the Scientific Learning and Development Fund, and the Synnovis Academy, which offers funding and support for advanced qualifications. Through our Innovation Accelerator Fund, you can seek financial support for innovative scientific projects. Opportunities to engage with the broader scientific community through symposiums, conferences, and peer group meetings are also available.
