Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a dedicated band 6 or seasoned band 5 professional to become part of our vibrant and committed critical care, cardiothoracic, and surgical team.

Our team operates within a leading healthcare institution, providing comprehensive services in Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, Upper GI, Colorectal Surgery, Urology, and EPOC.

Completion of core junior rotations, including acute respiratory and neurology, is a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting assessments and providing treatment to patients in relevant areas.
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams across all clinical settings.
  • Overseeing junior staff, including Band 5 professionals, support workers, and students.
  • Acting in place of Band 7 professionals as necessary.
  • Demonstrating flexibility, including late shifts, weekend work, and out-of-hours duties.
  • Partnering with Band 7 professionals and senior team members to enhance service delivery in alignment with evidence-based practices.
  • Facilitating student placements within the team and offering both formal and informal training.
  • Creating a supportive and educational environment for team members, including conducting annual appraisals and promoting health and wellbeing.
  • Leading by example to ensure that the institution's values and behaviors are integrated into daily practice.

The Physiotherapy service is an integral part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the key components of the Clinical Support Division. Our diverse team of allied health professionals and support staff, comprising over 800 members, collaborates to provide the high-quality care we aspire to deliver. Our HCPC registered professionals include physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to guide our strategic direction, and many leaders within the pathway have backgrounds in allied health to support our staff. Additionally, Practice Development Therapists are available to assist with career advancement for all team members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Permanent Band 6 position, with core hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
  • Additional responsibilities include participation in on-call duties and weekend shifts, as well as late shifts (1 PM to 9 PM). Weekend duties are scheduled with an expected frequency of 1 in 4, with an average of 1 on-call duty per month and late shifts approximately 1-2 times per month, depending on service requirements and staffing levels.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the field.
  • State registration / HCPC.
  • Evidence of postgraduate training pertinent to the area.

Desirable

  • Membership in relevant professional groups.
  • Completion of first-line management training.
  • Participation in clinical educator training.

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive junior rotational experience with a focus on acute inpatient care.
  • Possession of specific knowledge relevant to the area.
  • Experience in evaluating practice and appraising performance.

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a Band 6 role.
  • Experience in conducting audits.
