Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated and motivated professionals to become part of our collaborative Gastroenterology Unit at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidates will play a vital role in delivering exceptional endoscopy services within a JAG-accredited unit, managing outpatient consultations, and providing inpatient care on our specialized Gastroenterology Ward.

Key Responsibilities

This role will integrate into a skilled team of 10 established Gastroenterologists on the Wirral Peninsula. Our Gastroenterology Unit is divided into specialized areas focusing on hepato-pancreatobiliary (HPB) and luminal services. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive gastroenterology background with specific interests in subspecialties or endoscopy. Additional Programmed Activities (PAs) beyond the standard 10 PA contract may be available, contingent upon service requirements.

As a consultant within the Medical Division, participation in the general medical acute on-call rota is not required; however, involvement in the GI bleed rota is expected.

The available position is for a Gastro Consultant with a primary focus on Luminal practice, although experience in HPB is also welcomed. The new appointee should have a well-rounded gastroenterology and endoscopy background. The Trust is open to offering multiple positions to enhance gastroenterology services in the region. Selection for the role will be based on the applicant's qualifications and subspecialty expertise.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Eligibility for entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or nearing completion of CCT/CCST/CESR in gastroenterology and GIM

Desirable

  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

Experience

  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical skills and expertise in the specialty
  • Able to contribute to the full spectrum of skills required for the on-call rota in the specialty
