About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Infection to join our Microbiology service at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a team of consultants, specialty doctors, and clinical scientists to provide a routine Clinical Microbiology service.
  • Develop and implement infection control strategies to prevent and control the spread of infections.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide a comprehensive service, including antimicrobial stewardship and laboratory diagnostics.
  • Participate in general microbiology on-call rota and provide advice and guidance to clinical teams.
  • Contribute to the development of sub-specialty interests and provide expertise in infection prevention and control.
Requirements
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent.
  • Medical degree: MBBS or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Broad range of knowledge in Medical Microbiology, Virology, and laboratory diagnostics.
  • Ability to report and advise independently.
  • Experience and ability to advise in Infection Prevention and Control activities, including outbreaks.
  • Experience of laboratory diagnostics, including automation and molecular techniques.
Personal Qualities
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Leadership skills and ability to make decisive decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
