Position Overview
- This is a full-time locum role within the NHS aimed at strengthening the team of dedicated Consultant Physicians specializing in Respiratory Medicine. The chosen candidate will collaborate with a vibrant and active chest team.
The position encompasses duties related to inpatient respiratory care, conducting bronchoscopic and pleural procedures, as well as managing outpatient respiratory services. There is also the potential to delve into a sub-specialty such as sleep medicine, Interstitial Lung disease, or community respiratory care.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocated sessions will focus on patient-related administrative duties and facilitating patient activities. Successful candidates will be encouraged to cultivate a sub-specialty interest that aligns with the existing team’s expertise.
- The Respiratory Physicians participate in a rotational on-call schedule for respiratory emergencies.

Job Duties
Core Responsibilities
- The role entails professional activities comprising allocated PAs for direct patient care and supporting professional endeavors, including education, training, continuous professional development, audits, and governance.
- Consultants are expected to engage in daytime ward rounds, respond to phone inquiries throughout the day and evening, and be available for emergency calls.
- Responsibilities include delivering services in Respiratory Medicine, diagnosing and treating patients, and overseeing staff while mentoring junior doctors.
- The post holder will manage respiratory and other medical referrals within the organization.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications and Training
- Essential
- Registration on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights
- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- CCST in General Medicine and Respiratory (or within 6 months of receipt at the time of interview) or inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Desirable
- An advanced degree in respiratory medicine (MD, PhD, or equivalent)
Experience and Clinical Expertise
- Essential
- Comprehensive experience in managing respiratory patients
- Proficiency in Diagnostic bronchoscopy
- Desirable
- Experience in Cardiopulmonary exercise test reporting
Personal Attributes
