London, Greater London, United Kingdom Rail Delivery Group Full time

Salary: £54,000

What is the purpose of this role?

The essence of programme coordination lies in harmonizing a collective strategic vision while managing various workstreams and guiding project teams. As a Senior Programme Coordinator, your mission is to oversee programmes, projects, and other initiatives throughout their entire lifecycle, ensuring they remain within defined scope, timeline, and budgetary constraints. You will be expected to adhere to the RDG Project Delivery Framework and promote its application among colleagues. Your performance will be evaluated based on the successful execution of programmes within our organization and, where applicable, our member organizations.

This position will spearhead the RDG execution of industry programmes, which may encompass projects related to accessibility, fares, ticketing, retail, or back-office systems within the industry.

What will your responsibilities include?

In collaboration with the Project Director and various internal or external stakeholders, you can anticipate engaging in the following:

  • Overseeing RDG project teams
  • Leading the programme(s) – representing it, resolving obstacles, fostering a competent team, setting direction, and managing multiple workstreams concurrently
  • Establishing, maintaining, and managing programme and project plans, while tracking and monitoring progress and issues, and taking necessary actions and decisions
  • Managing risks, issues, and changes. Initiating corrective measures against identified risks and issues to meet programme objectives. Managing changes with consideration for business benefits and impacts on costs and timelines.
  • Setting up appropriate governance for the Programme in alignment with RDG's existing governance structure. Responsible for providing reports and documentation for that governance and stakeholders
  • Supporting project delivery teams in their daily operations to achieve the performance required for successful programme objectives
  • Complying with RDG Project Delivery Framework standards and procedures, while identifying and implementing enhancements to these standards and procedures, including the RDG Risk Management process

What qualifications are we seeking?

We are in search of an individual with extensive experience as a programme manager or senior project manager, showcasing a strong aptitude for the role and possessing expert knowledge in programme and project management.

Key skills and knowledge we are looking for include:

  • Diverse vocational experience, ideally within Transport, Travel, Retail, Utilities, or Professional Services
  • Experience with both Agile and Prince 2 methodologies, and qualifications in programme management (e.g., Managing Successful Programmes (MSP))
  • Proven track record of delivering programmes/projects within agreed constraints of time, budget, and high-level scope, including experience in prioritizing activities and managing issues and risks
  • Experience in delivering programmes or projects involving multiple external stakeholders
  • Leading a programme with significant budgetary responsibilities
  • Ability to make decisions regarding project priorities, change management, and financial adjustments
  • Experience in developing project plans and ensuring the delivery of priority projects
  • Identifying and documenting risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions, and decisions, along with appropriate management actions
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, effectively guiding project teams and individuals
  • Excellent communication skills, engaging with senior executives, stakeholders, industry boards, and project team members through high-quality reports, presentations, and focus groups to influence decisions and provide support on business management
  • Strategic thinking in your approach to project delivery

  • 75% reduction on UK rail travel (for work and leisure)
  • Reduced international rail travel
