Role Summary
We are in search of a seasoned Computational Protein Engineering expert to join our Antigen Design team. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in employing advanced machine learning techniques, including generative models, to create novel protein structures. They will be adept at developing computational workflows for the design, analysis, and validation of protein constructs. This position necessitates a comprehensive understanding of protein biochemistry to facilitate effective collaboration with laboratory scientists and immunologists in the design and validation of vaccine antigens.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Objectives
- Lead the creation of computational workflows utilizing AI methodologies to design proteins intended for vaccine applications.
- Work closely with laboratory teams to validate and assess newly developed methodologies through computational, experimental, and biological models.
- Utilize computational pipelines and structural knowledge to design proteins that present target epitopes in optimal configurations.
- Collaborate across diverse teams, including immunologists, evolutionary biologists, molecular biologists, and machine learning engineers, to ensure that novel designs are optimized for eliciting effective immune responses.
- Analyze and interpret experimental findings to enhance the design process.
Strategic Objectives
- Remain informed about the latest advancements and research in the field.
- Evaluate progress in protein engineering and guide development strategies.
- Mentor junior scientists and team members, fostering a collaborative environment while establishing expertise in your technical domain.
- Contribute to scientific literature and represent Baseimmune at relevant scientific gatherings.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in computational protein engineering within academic or industry contexts.
- 1-2 years of experience in a post-doctoral or industry role.
- Demonstrated success in designing novel proteins using state-of-the-art computational techniques for biologics.
- In-depth knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods applied to protein design, including RFdiffusion, MPNN, AlphaFold, and Rosetta.
- Proficient in programming with Python and utilizing Linux command line.
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and strategic thinking.
- Proven record of scientific innovation and publications in esteemed journals.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
