The Signalling Testing and Commissioning Practice is an enthusiastic team, eager to adopt modern systems, processes, and concepts within the regulatory framework we operate.

We are looking for a driven and organized professional to join us in leading the planning and management of testing for significant projects.

You should demonstrate the ability to perform under pressure and utilize your initiative while working in a highly regulated environment.

Reporting to and acting on behalf of the Testing and Commissioning Engineer (Delivery), this role is primarily site-based on projects, which may necessitate overnight stays for extended periods and working outside of standard hours. A full UK driving license is required.

Qualifications:
  • Must possess NR Certificate of Competency or have held it within the last five years.
  • Must hold an IRSE Tester In Charge and Functional Tester License or have held it within the last five years.
  • Experience in planning and managing railway signalling testing and commissioning for projects of varying scales.
  • NR Major Works TIC certification and proven project delivery experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook.
  • Understanding of principles and systems testing requirements.
  • A1 IRSE assessor for all Testing Categories except Principles and Systems Testing (desirable).
  • Familiarity with Railway Group and NR company standards.
  • Strong personnel management and communication skills, both internally and with clients.
  • Able to perform under pressure during critical commissioning phases.
  • Current Driving License.
  • Willingness to work flexibly and efficiently to support project and practice objectives.
  • Ability to contribute to the management team to guide the development and future direction of the testing group.
  • Support and mentor junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assume overall responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and modified signalling systems for Major Works Testing of substantial signalling projects.
  • Perform testing duties within the scope of the Certificate of Competency held.
  • Represent AtkinsRéalis at client meetings.
  • Manage Work Package responsibilities on projects.
  • Identify resource needs for your projects and ensure competent staff are utilized, ensuring they are briefed on their tasks and responsibilities, and that necessary documentation is completed.
  • Encourage and promote staff development as a pathway to self-improvement.
  • Disseminate management briefings as necessary.
  • Act on behalf of the Testing Manager.
  • Perform line management duties.
  • Provide upward reporting of project testing status to the Testing Manager and project team as required.
  • Ensure audits and surveillances are conducted according to the Project Quality plan.
  • Ensure compliance with AtkinsRéalis standards, procedures, and processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative, and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute to AtkinsRéalis' commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Oversee testing and commissioning of signalling equipment to meet contract specifications, performance, and safety standards.
  • Manage effective utilization and allocation of project-based testing resources, both internal and subcontracted.
  • Prepare and verify bids for accuracy and pricing for the testing components of signalling projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, innovations, and initiatives at AtkinsRéalis.
