The Signalling Testing and Commissioning Practice is an engaging team, enthusiastic about embracing modern systems, processes, and concepts within the necessary regulatory framework.

We are looking for a driven and organized professional to lead the functional testing of projects of varying sizes and complexities.

You should be able to demonstrate the capability to perform under pressure and utilize initiative while operating within a highly regulated setting.

Do you possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to engage and communicate with personnel at all levels?

Are you capable of fostering the development of your team members and providing training as opportunities arise, acting as a Lead Mentor or Mentor for staff as needed, while actively promoting their technical growth as railway signalling engineers?

The role primarily involves site-based work on projects, which may require extended stays away from home and working during unsocial hours. A full UK driving license is essential.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Must possess NR Certificate of Competence (CofC) or have held it within the last five years.
  • Must hold an IRSE License for Functional Testing or have held it within the last five years.
  • Experience in railway signalling functional testing with diverse project exposure to Location/Interlocking level and comprehensive equipment-specific expertise.
  • NWR 3B/4 testing competency certification and/or recognized industry-specific specialist qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of the Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook.
  • A1 IRSE assessor for all testing categories except TIC, principles, and systems testing (desirable).
  • Solid knowledge of Railway Group/NWR company standards requirements.
  • Effective personnel management and communication abilities.
  • Able to perform under pressure during peak workloads and commissioning phases.
  • Current Driving License.
  • Ability to perform COSS duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct functional testing of relay-based and CBI interlocking systems and perform testing of trackside equipment.
  • Collaborate and assist other testing teams as necessary.
  • Support the Tester in Charge in assessing the testing resource needs for specific tasks.
  • Provide upward reporting of project testing status to the Tester in Charge.
  • Ensure compliance with AtkinsRéalis standards, procedures, and processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative, and project requirements.
  • Contribute to quality, safety, and environmental objectives and support AtkinsRéalis's commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Execute testing and commissioning of signalling equipment to fulfill contract specifications, performance, and safety standards.
  • Plan the team's daily activities and monitor progress, reporting to the Tester in Charge as needed.
  • Efficiently raise and close out Test Logs.
  • Encourage the development of team members and actively provide training as opportunities arise.
  • Serve as a signalling works Mentor for staff as required, promoting their technical advancement as railway signalling engineers.
  • Foster and promote the growth of staff as a pathway to self-development.
  • Participate in performance evaluations, attend training sessions, and maintain an acceptable standard for the IRSE logbook.
  • Advance individual knowledge and skills to facilitate professional growth.
