Job Summary

The Department for Business and Trade is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Policy Lead to join our team. As a key member of our Steel and Aluminium team, you will play a critical role in shaping and implementing policies that support the UK steel sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies that promote the UK steel sector's growth and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across government, industry, and international organizations to identify and address trade barriers and opportunities.
  • Lead the UK's participation in international forums, including the OECD Steel Committee and the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity.
  • Work closely with trade-focused teams to ensure the needs of the steel sector are taken into consideration in the government's trade strategy.
  • Facilitate policy development and decision-making between industry and government through the coordination of key decision-making bodies.
  • Lead team input on domestic trade remedies cases and monitor foreign trade remedies cases impacting the UK sector.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to promote the UK steel sector's interests.
  • Monitor and analyze global steel industry trends and developments to inform policy decisions.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in policy development and implementation, with a strong understanding of trade policy and the steel sector.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and evaluate policy trade-offs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing competing demands.
  • International engagement experience, with a strong understanding of global steel industry trends and developments.
