Senior Policy Advisor

The Department for Business and Trade is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join its team as a Senior Policy Advisor. This is a unique opportunity to work with the Review Body on Senior Salaries, providing critical support to the secretariat team and leading the process of evidence-gathering and consideration of issues.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the work of the secretariat team, managing the process of evidence-gathering and considering issues, advising the Review Body and drafting much of its annual report.
- Gain and develop the confidence of the Review Body chair and members as a source of well-judged advice on policy issues and work programme.
- Lead on the Review Body's advice in its next annual report on a pay uplift for the judiciary.
- Establish effective relationships with the chair and members, leading a programme of work that engages all relevant external interests and allows the Review Body to make recommendations based on strong evidence and analysis.
- Develop a strong knowledge of the different remit groups and the judiciary, preparing papers summarising evidence and developing and presenting options.
- Coordinate the work of the secretariat team and line-manage an HEO, working collaboratively with analysts and across the Department.
- Support Review Body members on visits across the UK to meet groups and individuals in their workplaces.

- Ability to take the initiative, plan and prioritise, and lead the team to deliver.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the self-assurance to lead on advice and briefing to the Review Body chairs and members.
- Experience in producing fluent, clear, and well-structured drafting.
- Ability to grasp complex and nuanced subject matter, including interpretation and use of data, with strong attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
- Aptitude for building effective external relationships, including working with officials in other government departments.
