Job Purpose

As a Senior Development Planner, you will be the key point of contact for clients delivering planning advice on development applications and projects. You will continue to develop core competencies and technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialize in advising on your area of expertise with experience or seniority, while developing management responsibility.
  • Develop and refine commercial management, client relationship, and business development skills as evidenced by good quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to technical excellence in the team and supervise, assist, and/or mentor team members as required, with regards to both technical and professional development.
  • Review the work of other professional staff and may direct a small team or a unique element of a project.
  • Collaborate effectively with an internal network of colleagues to ensure the most successful outcome for the project/client.
  • Apply specialized knowledge in your technical or professional area to ensure the best outcome for the client.
  • Build and consolidate networks within the industry to enhance understanding and knowledge of expertise.
  • Ensure great client experience, whether internal or external, and make a positive contribution towards bids and project proposals.
  • Undertake work requiring the application of principles in a wide range of contexts and demonstrate creativity in applying solutions.
  • Strive for continuous improvement across the services provided to clients through innovative approaches to ways of working, solutions, and outcomes.
  • Be responsible for the work of others and the allocation of resources.
  • Be accountable for own budgetary, quality, safety, and timeframe targets for projects and identify and agree any additional work with the Project Manager or client as appropriate.
  • Aware of and comply with Health and Safety procedures to ensure projects are compliant with these.
  • Establish own milestones, deadlines, and team objectives and delegate responsibility to ensure projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective way.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and other third parties involved in projects to ensure both the client's and Lanpro's interests are safeguarded.
  • Direct and monitor the technical aspects of specific segments of major projects or oversee smaller projects.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.
  • Conduct research and undertake comprehensive planning appraisals to establish the development potential of sites.
  • Write high-quality reports with clear recommendations.
  • Provide guidance to engineers and architects on the production of drawings and supplemental planning information in relation to planning submissions.
  • Prepare fee proposals to generate new business.
  • Review Local Planning Authority (LPA) Local Plans and their stage of production.
  • Manage community engagement committee meetings and public examinations.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders involved in the planning process and negotiate positive outcomes for the client.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold an RTPI-accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline.
  • Preferably a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or be working towards it.
  • Ideally have at least two years post-qualification experience in a relevant role.
  • Have spent at least two years working in the planning industry in either the public or private sectors.
