Job Summary

HM Revenue and Customs is seeking an experienced and qualified Financial Control and Reporting Lead to join our team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the accurate and timely consolidation, reporting, and analysis of financial data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within our organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of financial professionals and wider finance leadership.
  • Manage the consolidation and assurance of our financial position, working with finance business partners, management accountants, and HMRC Finance.
  • Analysis, interrogation, and challenge of our financial information, to ensure effective management of our financial position, including trends, variances, issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Manage the production of standard financial reports and packs, including value-added, insightful narrative.
  • Lead on benefits and efficiency tracking, reporting, and challenge, working collaboratively with programmes, management accountants, finance business partners, and HMRC Finance.
  • Lead on HMRC Finance month and year-end commissions and reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial and procurement expertise to improve and assure commercial supplier and contract spend analysis.
  • Automation (subject matter input to recharging/reporting automation).
  • Manage the recharging processes, including improving the accuracy and the processes.
  • Cross-team collaboration with management accountants and finance business partners regarding consistency, best practice, upskilling, and assurance, as well as a point of escalation and advice.

Requirements

  • CCAB (includes CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ACA) or equivalent fully qualified accountant.
  • Proven previous experience in a similar role, including previous people management responsibilities.
  • Strong financial data analysis and reporting skills, preferably using PowerBI and PowerQuery.
  • Ability to translate financial data into meaningful insight to support analysis and decision-making.

Desirable Criteria

  • Prior experience working within an IT/Digital centred finance function.
