In this challenging and rewarding role, you will be responsible for providing expert financial and taxation advice to internal and external customers. Your primary focus will be on ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, as well as providing strategic guidance on financial matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert advice on VAT accounting, including quarterly VAT returns and preparation of VAT certificates.
- Prepare and submit international tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Support the Financial Accountant with aspects of monthly and annual reporting, including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation and audit of the Statutory Accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Develop and implement a tax strategy, involving a review of the tax aspects of the University's overseas activity and operations.
- Proactively research potential tax compliance issues and quantify the impact.
- Collaborate with the capital and income accountant on month-end capital reporting and controls.
- Good knowledge of VAT and corporation tax matters, with up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in each tax.
- Understanding of appropriate legislation, regulations, and code of practice, along with appreciation of the implications of non-compliance.
- Good understanding of UK GAAP and technical post-qualified experience.
- Experienced in completing HMRC returns (such as corporation tax or VAT returns) and/or working with HMRC.
- Ability to receive, understand, and convey ideas and information clearly and accurately, which may at times be complex, highly detailed, technical, or specialist.
- Hold a CCAB Accountancy qualification.
The Financial Control team undertakes and oversees financial control and compliance activities on behalf of the university, working with and supporting colleagues across all Faculties and Services. The team is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the University's financial records, as well as providing expert advice on financial and taxation matters.
