Position Overview

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is in search of a skilled Facilities Operations Manager to become a part of our Infrastructure Division.

We are interested in candidates who possess either a mechanical or electrical specialization.

While the role is primarily based at one of our hospital sites, the successful candidate may occasionally be required to work across various locations within the Trust.

Main Responsibilities

As the Facilities Operations Manager, you will report to the Senior Operations Manager and oversee the comprehensive range of operational maintenance and services across all designated hospital properties. You will ensure that the Trust adheres to all relevant regulatory and advisory frameworks, including Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), technical guidance, and best professional practices.

Key Duties Include:

  • Collaborating with the Facilities Operations Manager (Mechanical/Electrical) to manage all Facilities Supervisors, Directly Employed Labour (DEL), and Specialist Contractors to deliver an effective Facilities Service, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for patient care.
  • Taking a proactive approach to ensure the department achieves and maintains ISO9001 accreditation.
  • Providing technical expertise in your core discipline to the Senior Operations Manager, Facilities Officers, Supervisors, DEL, and Contractors as necessary.
  • Managing all resources assigned to you to ensure a cost-effective, quality service is delivered in support of the delegated budget holder.
  • Assisting with capital projects and executing minor works projects from inception through to completion.
  • Developing and implementing operational procedures/policies and safe systems of work at the hospital and Trust-wide as required, including liaising with user departments.
  • Engaging with external agencies as necessary, such as the Environmental Agency and HSE.
  • Acting as the Responsible/Authorised Person for designated functions, including LV Systems, Electrical Work Regulations, Lifts, Medical Gas, and Ventilation.
  • Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and development of the Building Management System (BMS), including adjusting programs and parameters to meet service and estate changes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and advisory frameworks, HTMs, and technical guidance.
  • Managing the sickness and disciplinary processes in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Implementing an ongoing program of change and improvement to ensure a quality-oriented, value-for-money Facilities service is provided to the Trust.
  • Advising and assisting the Service and Quality Manager on initiatives to enhance quality and proactively working towards maintaining the department's ISO9001 accreditation.
  • Participating in Environmental Health, Hygiene Inspections, and Matron visits, addressing all Estates items and faults within designated timeframes.
  • Maintaining effective communication with subordinate staff and ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or HNC with endorsements or equivalent experience in Engineering & Management.
  • Specialist qualifications to Authorised Person level in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Medical Gas Systems or Low Voltage Systems.

Desirable:

  • Possession or willingness to pursue an NVQ LEVEL 5 Management Qualification.
