Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities will encompass repairs, installation tasks, and scheduled maintenance activities across multiple trades, necessitating specialized knowledge in various work procedures and practices.
You will identify and rectify all faults in engineering installations, machinery, and equipment.
You may be required to lead a team, coordinating and directing the efforts of others.
You will engage in a range of complex tasks of a multi-trade nature.
Your skills will extend beyond core trades to assist in diagnosing and maintaining activities, including the installation, upkeep, and testing of medical gases and related equipment.
You will assume the role of HTM Authorised Person in your area of core competencies.

Job Duties
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for coordinating with user departments to effectively plan and execute their workload in compliance with departmental workforce planning.
The role requires requisitioning suitable replacement items through appropriate procedures, utilizing the correct documentation as per Stores Requisitioning Procedures.
You will diagnose and repair faults in engineering installations, machinery, and equipment, using specialized tools and complex measuring devices.
The Specialist will be expected to carry appropriate communication equipment to enable a swift response to urgent or emergency situations.
Effective communication with wards and departments regarding Estates issues is essential, utilizing both written and verbal methods to ensure service delivery standards are maintained and that service users are fully informed of works affecting their areas.
You will need to be familiar with the operation of Building Management Systems and undertake training on the Trust's systems as required.
Assessing individual circumstances that impact the health and safety of patients, staff, and visitors is crucial, and you will make decisions to proceed with work procedures when appropriate.
You will ensure that checklists and advice notes are updated to comply with ISO 9001:2015 requirements, HTMs, working practices, and Permit to Work systems.
You will undertake a range of Authorised Person duties in specific specialist areas where appropriate training has been provided, including Pressure Systems, Water Management, and Legionella Control.
You will serve as the responsible or nominated person as outlined in relevant regulatory and advisory compliance frameworks, with areas identified and agreed upon in writing, followed by appropriate training.
Contributing to the Continuous Improvement and Waste Reduction Programmes is expected.
You will conduct surveys and provide comprehensive reports as deemed necessary by the Estates Manager.
Ensuring the Quality System Framework is utilized and maintained at the operational level in accordance with the department's Quality Manual is essential.
Qualifications
Essential
- HNC in Building Engineering or equivalent qualifications supported by further education, training, and experience within a large Estates function or its equivalent.
Experience
Essential
- Recognized apprenticeship.
- Experience in complex Engineering Services with a proven track record of success.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a large acute hospital.
- Previous experience contributing to operational decision-making.
