Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Facilities Operations Supervisor to become a vital member of the Facilities Management team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

We seek a proactive and motivated individual with prior supervisory experience who is eager to contribute to a high-performing management team. The successful candidate will oversee a group of support service personnel in maintaining exceptional cleanliness standards, housekeeping, and domestic services.

The Facilities Team delivers a professional in-house service that significantly impacts the Trust's overall performance, reflecting our core values and behaviors.

This position is part-time, requiring 15 hours per week, with a schedule from Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

The Facilities Operations Supervisor will be accountable for leading the daily execution of an efficient and customer-oriented quality service in alignment with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness.

The role encompasses the supervision of a team of domestic staff and housekeepers to ensure service delivery.

You will need to effectively plan, execute, and assess both your own and your team's performance while being adaptable and self-driven, setting clear and achievable goals for individuals, teams, and operations.

Collaboration with key stakeholders is essential, as is supporting clinical teams and fostering positive working relationships. You will maintain open lines of communication with line managers, clinical managers, teams, Trust staff, external organizations, and the public.

Job Duties

  • Delivering the Service: Supervisors will identify and address user needs daily, resolving issues and complaints as they arise. This requires effective collaboration with other staff groups, particularly nursing, and actively seeking constructive feedback on service delivery.
  • Training and Monitoring: Supervisors are responsible for training, monitoring, and supervising facilities staff in all aspects of their roles.
  • Hands-On Support: Supervisors will work alongside staff teams and perform domestic and housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Knowledge Transfer: A Supervisor must possess the knowledge and technical skills to teach staff the necessary competencies for service delivery.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Support the Trust's Health and Safety Policy by ensuring staff are trained to maintain a safe environment for employees, visitors, and patients.
  • Service Standards Monitoring: Oversee areas of responsibility to ensure service standards are consistently met in accordance with National Cleaning Standards, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Catering Services Oversight: Monitor catering services at the ward level to ensure compliance with food safety documentation and current legislation.
  • Waste Reduction Initiatives: Actively support efforts to minimize food waste.
  • Equipment Management: Assist Team Leaders in ensuring that equipment used for service delivery meets required standards and is properly maintained.
  • Stock Management: Inform Team Leaders of ordering needs to maintain adequate stock levels for service delivery.
  • Incident Reporting: Conduct initial investigations and report untoward incidents and accidents.
  • Absence Monitoring: Complete and return Absence Monitoring forms.
  • Return to Work Interviews: Ensure timely completion of return to work interviews and inform Team Leaders when an employee reaches the next stage of the Trust's Management of Sickness and Absence Policy.
  • Payroll Preparation: Check and countersign clock cards weekly in preparation for payroll data entry.
  • Annual Leave Management: Manage annual leave requests promptly.

  • Level 3 Food Safety or willingness to study for it within three months.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.

  • ILM Level 2 Supervisory Studies or willingness to study for it within three months.

  • Previous supervisory experience.

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.

Knowledge and Awareness
