About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Digital Protection Specialist to join our team at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our implementation team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of our Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments: Lead the process of conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments for the EPR implementation project, ensuring that all necessary steps and considerations are taken into account.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that the EPR implementation project adheres to relevant data protection laws, regulations, and best practices, such as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and assess potential risks and impacts on patient data privacy and security throughout the EPR implementation, including data access, storage, transmission, and retention. Develop and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with project teams, IT professionals, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure that privacy and security requirements are integrated into the EPR implementation process. Provide training and guidance to project teams and staff members regarding data protection principles and best practices for handling patient information.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the implementation of recommended mitigation measures, evaluate their effectiveness, and provide ongoing support and guidance as needed.
Requirements
  • Educational Qualifications: Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
  • Professional Certifications: ISO accredited GDPR Foundation and Practitioner certificate or evidence of further education in the application of ISO/IEC 27002:2013 and other associated standards.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Proven experience in conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments and implementing data protection measures, preferably in the healthcare sector or with EPR systems. Specialist knowledge of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit and its application. In-depth knowledge of data protection laws and regulations, such as GDPR and DPA 2018, and their implications for EPR implementations.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Excellent IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio.
