About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Physicist to join our team at Northampton General Hospital. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective use of radiation in medical imaging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for diagnostic radiology services, providing expert advice on radiation safety and quality assurance.
  • Lead the provision of scientific support and quality assurance for the physical aspects of diagnostic imaging modalities.
  • Provide specialist advice on the specification and selection of complex x-ray equipment to ensure patient safety and optimal image quality.
  • Conduct dose audits for radiological installations, including breast screening programs, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers' representatives and colleagues to resolve issues related to radiological physics.
  • Participate in the provision of scientific support and performance testing of radiological equipment.
  • Provide advice on compliance with ionising radiation legislation to our clients.
  • Undertake audits of compliance with radiation protection legislation, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
  • BSc (Hons) Physics or equivalent qualification.
  • MSc in Radiation Physics or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Clinical Scientist.
  • Registered Medical Physics Expert (Diagnostic Radiology).
  • Current driving license.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered Radiation Protection Advisor or Laser Protection Advisor.
  • Extensive specialist knowledge in radiation and imaging physics as applied to medicine.
  • Experience in performance testing of diagnostic x-ray equipment and developing testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of programming languages.
  • Highly specialized knowledge of laser safety.
Key Competencies and Personal Qualities
  • Ability to train specialist and non-specialist staff in complex, highly specialized subject matter.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to understand and operate a wide range of diagnostic imaging equipment.
