The NHS LLR Psychological Therapies Team is in search of a proficient Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with substantial experience in Adult Mental Health. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with a pioneering and dynamic service that delivers high-quality CBT to patients at risk of being underserved by primary and secondary care psychological services. As one of the first of its kind nationally, this service adopts an innovative approach to address the specific needs of these patients. Operating in its second year, this position offers an exceptional opportunity for the right individual. You will be part of a highly skilled and experienced multi-disciplinary team that has established excellent in-house weekly supervision, CPD events, and hosts research initiatives, providing significant opportunities for ongoing professional development and enhancement of research skills.

Key Responsibilities

While a detailed Job and Person Specification is attached, key responsibilities include:

  • Functioning as an autonomous Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist within Psychological Therapy Services.
  • Managing and treating patients with complex presentations effectively.
  • Delivering evidence-based CBT interventions and developing treatment initiatives through expert evaluation, innovation, and research.
  • Providing expert CBT education, training, and supervision to clinical staff both within and outside the team.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Full practitioner BABCP accreditation.
  • Registration with the relevant statutory professional regulatory body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, or BABCP KSA equivalent relevant to your core mental health professional qualification).
  • A postgraduate diploma/degree in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy or an equivalent qualification, such as a recognized High Intensity IAPT therapist.
  • Experience in delivering specialist Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) for adults and older adults facing a variety of mental health challenges, including but not limited to depression, panic disorder, PTSD, GAD, and OCD.
  • Experience in providing specialist CBT to a diverse patient demographic, including working with interpreters.
  • Experience in conducting highly specialized CBT assessments and treatments for patients with a broad range of diagnoses across various care settings.
  • The ability to work from clinical bases, community settings, and patients' homes for face-to-face sessions.
  • A valid UK driving license.

Job Description Summary

The role involves working as a specialist cognitive behavioural psychotherapist within psychological therapy and psychology services. The primary responsibility is to provide a comprehensive, highly specialized cognitive behavioural psychotherapy service to patients identified as at risk of falling between primary and secondary care psychological therapy services, particularly those with complex issues for which CBT is clinically effective. This includes working with adults who may present with severe and treatment-resistant disorders along with co-existing conditions. The role requires utilizing a broad theoretical knowledge base to analyze, interpret, and compare complex information to provide specialized cognitive behavioural assessments and formulations that inform advanced CBT interventions.

The successful candidate will operate as a highly skilled autonomous practitioner, managing a caseload under clinical and case management supervision. Contributions to the ongoing development of CBT practice, considering advancements in treatment, theory, and research, are essential. Maintaining specialist CBT knowledge and skills, along with BABCP accreditation, is required. The role necessitates effective communication across language and cultural barriers, including working with interpreters when necessary, and a commitment to equal opportunities. Work will be conducted from clinical bases, in patients' homes, or in community settings, primarily through face-to-face sessions, with some remote working as appropriate. Adherence to all standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines is mandatory.
