Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

The NHS LLR Psychological Therapies Team is on the lookout for a proficient Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with experience in Adult Mental Health. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage in a pioneering and vibrant service dedicated to delivering high-quality CBT for individuals at risk of falling through the cracks of primary and secondary care psychological services. As one of the first of its kind nationally, this service employs an innovative approach to cater to the needs of these patients. Now in its second year, this position offers an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate. You will be part of a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team that provides excellent in-house weekly supervision, continuing professional development (CPD) events, and hosts research initiatives, thereby offering significant avenues for ongoing skills enhancement and research development.

Role Responsibilities

While a detailed Job and Person Specification is available, key responsibilities include:

  • Functioning as an autonomous Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist within Psychological Therapy Services.
  • Managing and treating patients with complex presentations effectively.
  • Delivering evidence-based CBT interventions and creating treatment initiatives through expert evaluation, innovation, and research.
  • Providing expert CBT education, training, and supervision to clinical staff both within and outside the team.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Full practitioner BABCP accreditation.
  • Registration with the relevant statutory professional regulatory body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, or BABCP KSA equivalent relevant to your core mental health professional qualification).
  • A postgraduate diploma or degree in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy or an equivalent qualification, such as a recognized High Intensity IAPT therapist.
  • Experience in delivering specialized Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) for adults and older adults facing various mental health challenges, supported by a strong evidence base for CBT, including depression, panic disorder, PTSD, GAD, and OCD.
  • Experience in providing specialized CBT to a diverse patient demographic, including collaboration with interpreters.
  • Expertise in conducting specialized CBT assessments and treatments for patients with a wide range of diagnoses across various care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient, and home settings.
  • The ability to conduct face-to-face sessions with patients in clinical bases, community settings, and patients' homes.
  • A valid UK driving license.

Job Description Summary

The role involves functioning as a specialist cognitive behavioural psychotherapist within psychological therapy and psychology services. The aim is to provide a comprehensive, highly specialized cognitive behavioural psychotherapy service to patients identified as at risk of falling between primary and secondary care psychological therapy services, particularly those with complex issues for which CBT is clinically effective. This includes working with adults who may present with severe and treatment-resistant disorders alongside co-existing conditions. Utilizing a broad theoretical knowledge base, the post holder will analyze, interpret, and compare complex information to deliver specialized cognitive behavioural assessments and formulations that inform highly skilled CBT interventions.

The successful candidate will operate as a highly skilled autonomous practitioner, managing a caseload under clinical and case management supervision. They will contribute to the ongoing development of CBT practices, considering advancements in treatment, theory, and research. Maintaining specialist CBT knowledge and skills, along with BABCP accreditation, is essential. The role requires effective communication across language and cultural barriers, with a commitment to equal opportunities. The position involves working from clinical bases, patients' homes, or outdoor spaces, primarily conducting face-to-face sessions, with some remote work as appropriate. Adherence to all standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines is mandatory.
