Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and managerial midwifery leadership within the maternity unit, ensuring that standards of care are consistently upheld.
  • Work closely with Matrons and ward managers to ensure the smooth flow of clinical activities and staff deployment within the maternity unit.
  • Be visible and accessible to women and their families, ensuring that they can seek information, help, and support or communicate problematic or celebratory issues.
  • Contribute to discharge planning by liaising between inpatient maternity services, NICU, and Community Midwifery Service.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • A degree-level qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Teaching and mentorship experience.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Experience of working in an acute maternity hospital setting at Band 6 level or 1 year at Band 7 level.
  • Experience of collaborating with a multi-professional team.
  • Experience of reflective practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of national and local education/training requirements for MDT within the PDM remit of practice.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to use different IT databases, data analysis, and report writing. They will also be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships, negotiate and persuade effectively, and influence and affect change.
