Job Overview

• Provide expert consultation and clinical insights for complex cases involving significant distress related to autism, alongside co-occurring psychosis, anxiety, mood disorders such as depression, and enduring challenges often associated with 'personality disorder' diagnoses.

• Ensure that junior team members, including Assistant Psychologists and Senior Clinical Psychologists, adhere to a structured job plan and receive the necessary operational and clinical supervision.

• Collaborate closely with other psychological services to facilitate a seamless experience for service users and their families, under the guidance of the Care Pathway Lead.

• Conduct thorough assessments, deliver effective treatments, and implement systematic outcome measurements within the specialized care pathway.

Main Responsibilities

• Offer operational leadership within the specialized Adult autism service, guiding psychological practitioners in the pathway and representing psychology at senior levels, under the supervision of the Psychological service leads and Deputy Directorate for Psychological Professions.

• Provide clinical leadership and high-quality supervision within the integrated care pathway, typically overseeing Band 7 and Band 8a colleagues, as well as Assistant Psychologists and Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) as needed.

This position is subject to a probationary period, with internal applicants exempt unless currently undergoing a probationary period or are bank staff.

Onboarding with NELFT

We emphasize the importance of a warm welcome and thorough induction for new employees. All new hires will start on the first Monday of each month and will participate in a comprehensive induction program lasting up to two weeks, which includes mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation. New starters will also have opportunities to meet the executive team and senior managers, and attend various engagement sessions focused on health, wellbeing, and essential processes.

High Cost Area Supplement

This role includes a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,313 to maximum £5,436 pro rata for part-time) for Outer London and 5% for Fringe areas (minimum £1,192 to maximum £2,011 pro rata for part-time).

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Engage in the development and implementation of high standards of clinical care, ensuring services are needs-led, compliant with national guidelines, and positively received by service users.

Contribute to the strategic development and transformation of Specialist Adult autism services within NELFT, maintaining high-quality therapeutic delivery across the borough. This includes enhancing integration within Mental Health and Wellness teams and across primary and secondary care.

Deputize for the Lead of Psychological Professionals, encompassing leadership, line management, and service development responsibilities.

Maintain a small clinical caseload.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

Post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology with additional specialist training relevant to this population (e.g., ADOS, AAA, modified therapy for autism). Professional registration with the appropriate body (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist.

Experience

Essential Criteria

Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices and a commitment to staying updated on new developments in psychology, particularly those relevant to this population. Experience managing high-risk situations and severe mental health challenges.

Skills

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to provide consultation to both professional and non-professional stakeholders.
