Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation and advisory services to other clinical colleagues within the Trust and Primary Care
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities
  • Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty
  • Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management, and Clinical Audit, ensuring continued safe clinical practice
  • Ensure own practice is up-to-date, including responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and Appraisal
  • Participate in the GI bleed OOH rota and comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures
Requirements
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • JAG accreditation for diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy
  • Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Gastroenterology (or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview)
  • ALS (Adult Life Support) within the last 3 years
  • Higher Medical Degree
Desirable Qualities
  • Wide experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at senior level
  • Independent in therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy
  • Good personal insight and ability to manage constructive criticism and advice
  • Ability to hold clinical colleagues to account
  • Ability to function as an effective role model for junior medical staff
