We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Specialist to join our team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. As a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our gastroenterology services.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
- Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty.
- Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management, and Clinical Audit - including the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
- Ensure own practice is up to date, including responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and Appraisal.
- Participate in the GI bleed OOH rota.
- Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
- There is no General Medicine on call component to this job.

Job PlanThe successful candidate will be expected to work a 2-week ward rotation, with one week involving being on call for GI bleeds. The remaining 5 weeks will be spent on elective work, with opportunities to participate in a range of clinical activities, including endoscopy sessions and clinics.
Person Specification- Basic Medical Degree
- Full MRCP or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR
- JAG accreditation for diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy
- JAG accreditation for independent colonoscopy
- Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Gastroenterology (or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview)
- ALS (Adult Life Support) within last 3 years
- GMC Registration
- Higher Medical Degree
- Experience of clinical leadership within the team
- Evidence of engagement and understanding in clinical governance
- Ability to use the evidence base, including clinical audit and QI, to support decision-making and service development
- Evidence of research experience and published work
