This position presents a remarkable opportunity to engage within a well-established Governance and Clinical Quality framework within the organization.

Reporting directly to the Head of Quality Assurance, the primary role of the Clinical Effectiveness Lead is to oversee and guide the execution of the Trust's clinical effectiveness strategy. The ideal candidate will offer expert advice and support related to national, local, and Trust-specific priorities to personnel across both clinical and corporate divisions.

Main Responsibilities

Supported by the Quality Assurance Leads and Administrators, the post holder will serve as the principal expert for the organization on Clinical Effectiveness matters. They will assist the Head of Quality Assurance in developing the annual clinical effectiveness and audit strategy, ensuring the quality of clinical governance across the Trust, and spearheading a training program focused on clinical effectiveness and audits.

The post holder will provide daily support to the Quality Assurance Leads and Administrators, ensuring that departmental tasks are prioritized according to necessary timelines and deadlines.

The individual will be accountable for leading all Clinical Effectiveness work profiles and will assist clinical divisions in achieving their annual objectives related to clinical effectiveness.

Job Overview

The Clinical Effectiveness Lead will be instrumental in driving the implementation of the Trust's clinical effectiveness initiatives. This role is suited for individuals who are motivated, ambitious, and dedicated to delivering high-quality, safe, and effective patient care, with a strong desire to collaborate closely with clinical and managerial teams.

The key responsibility includes supporting directorate teams to establish robust systems for quality and governance. The post holder will provide senior-level support to clinical leads and teams in conducting quality assurance activities, including clinical audits, implementing national guidelines, and participating in national benchmarking, while advising on methodologies and presentations.

The post holder will collaborate with the Trust's Quality Assurance Team and work alongside the Head of Quality Assurance to lead the development and execution of the annual clinical audit program, the implementation of NICE guidelines, and benchmarking activities.

Additionally, the role involves overseeing comprehensive clinical effectiveness processes, including horizon scanning, strategic standard-setting, efficient measurement systems, and facilitating local and Trust-wide improvements.

The post holder will support the Quality Assurance Department in ensuring compliance with national and local mandatory standards, such as those set by the Care Quality Commission, as well as the Trust's annual quality priorities and Quality Accounts.

The individual will also act as a deputy for the Head of Quality Assurance when necessary.

The post holder will coordinate, implement, and designate Clinical Effectiveness priorities across the team, providing leadership, guidance, direction, and support to achieve departmental and team objectives.

Specifically, the post holder will lead the work profiles in the following areas:

  • Contributing to specific sections of the Trust Annual Quality Account
  • Clinical Outcomes and Benchmarking
  • National Audits and Confidential Inquiries
  • Clinical Audit Program
  • Reviewing and establishing new approaches for the approval and ratification of Trust-wide procedural documents

Qualifications and Training

Essential
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Audit, or Quality acquired through training and experience
  • Training in specialized clinical audit techniques and methodologies, e.g., Certificate in Clinical Audit for Health and Social Care (or a willingness to attain a similar qualification)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable
  • Management qualification (e.g., certificate or diploma in management studies)
  • Project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or MSP (Managing Successful Programmes)
Experience

Essential
  • Proven experience in leading audit, quality assurance, or quality projects, along with analyzing complex data and writing reports.
  • Experience in database/spreadsheet management
  • Experience working within the NHS or a healthcare environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in managing change and improving processes and systems, including formulating change plans.
