Fixed Term Apprenticeship Opportunity

We invite applications from individuals eager to embark on an apprenticeship journey within the NHS. This role offers the chance to acquire new competencies and insights while collaborating with a seasoned team, gaining invaluable experience and a recognized qualification in business administration.

As an apprentice, you will be registered with a local educational institution and will be expected to complete your Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration Apprenticeship Standard during your tenure.

An exciting vacancy has emerged within the Gastroenterology Division for a proficient Administrator to support the Upper GI Cancer Team. The ideal candidate should possess strong IT skills, particularly in Word and Excel, and demonstrate the ability to work independently while effectively managing daily tasks.

This is a full-time position, requiring commitment from Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, specialist nurses, secretaries, and all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to ensure that patients on a cancer pathway receive comprehensive management throughout their journey.

Coordinate the patient experience from referral through diagnostics, treatment planning, and therapy, identifying any potential delays and ensuring precise data collection to facilitate the process.

Bring relevant patients to the attention of the clinical team for discussion during MDT meetings, ensuring that the MDT coordinator is equipped with all necessary information for patient discussions.

Work in partnership with Cancer team members and other Patient Pathway Coordinators across the Trust to develop policies and procedures that guarantee seamless management of cancer patients across various specialties.

Job Duties

  • Proactively monitor patients urgently referred to the Trust by General Practitioners (GPs) who are suspected of having cancer. Ensure these patients are registered in the Trust Cancer IT system.
  • Facilitate appropriate requests for investigations as per clinician instructions and ensure timely appointment scheduling.
  • Adhere to the Trust's General Principles and Guidelines on Patient Access concerning waiting list management.
  • Identify newly diagnosed cancer patients and ensure they are recorded in the Trust Cancer IT system, confirming they are known to the clinical team and that necessary actions are taken to manage their pathway.
  • Identify potential delays or breaches in the patient pathway in accordance with the Trust's escalation policy.
  • In cases where patients cannot be managed within target dates, ensure completion of breach reports and proactively suggest improvements to the pathway.

  • 4 GCSEs at D/3 or above (or equivalent), including Mathematics and English.
