Position Overview

The Child and Adolescent Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team is a specialized service designed to provide comprehensive evaluations for young individuals with neurodevelopmental challenges. Our team is expanding and is composed of professionals with expertise in child and adolescent neurological conditions, combined with advanced mental health assessment capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Child and Adolescent Psychologist (Band 7) who has a keen interest in neurodevelopmental issues. The successful candidate will play a vital role in conducting assessments for conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team. You will collaborate with a diverse team of professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff, while also providing guidance to assistant psychologists.

As our service continues to grow to meet community needs, the selected candidate will benefit from clinical supervision by an experienced clinical psychologist specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders, along with group supervision from the team.

Springfield University Hospital

This facility is our largest site, featuring 19 wards and a significant investment in modern mental health infrastructure. It is conveniently located near public transport and amenities.

Job Duties

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct specialized assessments for young children and their families referred to our service, utilizing a variety of data sources, including psychological measures, structured observations, and interviews, in accordance with CYP IAPT methodologies.
  • Develop and recommend evidence-based intervention plans that enhance the parent-child relationship.
  • Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical frameworks and complex factors influencing the individual and family dynamics.
  • Exercise professional autonomy in the assessment, treatment, and discharge processes for clients managed under psychologically informed care plans.
  • Provide expert mental health guidance and consultation to other professionals involved in the care of young children and their families.
  • Utilize integrated working tools to ensure holistic and coordinated services for young clients and their families.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management strategies for young children and their families.
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively regarding assessment outcomes, treatment plans, and progress with clients and their families.
  • Monitor intervention progress, ensuring compliance with CYP IAPT standards for assessment and evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate health care records in line with Trust policies and information governance standards.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills across all professional interactions.

Teaching, Training, and Supervision

  • Engage in regular clinical supervision with senior psychologists and other experienced colleagues.
  • Enhance professional skills and experience relevant to the role, as agreed with the team manager.
  • Develop competencies in professional teaching, training, and supervision, providing guidance to other team members as appropriate.
  • Offer advice and training to staff working with the client group across various settings.

Management and Development

  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of operational policies and services through research and audit.
  • Foster a therapeutic and inclusive culture that meets the needs of the local population.

Research and Evaluation

  • Utilize evidence-based literature to support best practices in individual and team work.
  • Participate in research initiatives and provide guidance to colleagues engaged in research activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC.
  • Training relevant to neurodevelopmental assessment.

Desirable

  • Training in a recognized evidence-based approach as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative.
  • Formal training in autism assessment tools (e.g., 3DI, ADOS, ADI-R).

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people in diverse community settings.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary team collaboration.
  • Experience in inter-agency cooperation.
  • Experience in safeguarding and child protection.
  • Relevant experience in neurodevelopmental assessments.

Desirable

  • Experience leading case reviews.
  • Experience working within the NHS.
  • Experience in teaching and collaborating with other professional groups.
