We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 8 PA Senior Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our Emotional Disorders Team within the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a proactive and innovative psychiatrist who is passionate about service enhancement. You will collaborate with a team of enthusiastic consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinicians, engaging with various stakeholders including pediatricians, educational institutions, children's services, and allied health professionals. Main Responsibilities

This is a substantive 8 PAs position within the Emotional Disorders Treatment Team in core CAMHS.

The Emotional Disorders Team (EDT) provides assessments for children and adolescents presenting with complex issues, including trauma and attachment challenges, through collaborative multi-agency efforts. The MDT conducts assessments that are reviewed in weekly meetings to establish psychiatric diagnoses and management plans based on current evidence.

The EDT comprises a diverse team, including a consultant child psychiatrist, psychologists, child psychotherapists, family therapists, nursing staff, assistant psychologists, clinical associate psychologists, and CBT therapists, along with administrative support. Each case is assigned a case manager from the MDT.

Each CAMHS service operates under a local management structure, with a Lead Psychiatrist, Therapies Lead, and team manager collaborating closely with service managers. The Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS team is well-established, supported by a large multidisciplinary team of clinicians, and aims to deliver accessible, flexible, and responsive services for children and their families using various therapeutic interventions.

Job Responsibilities

EDT Leadership

  • Provide psychiatric leadership to the EDT.
  • Conduct initial assessments, psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and treatment, including the initiation and monitoring of pharmacological therapies.
  • Support the MDT in comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management planning, adhering to CAMHS care pathways and clinical models.
  • Offer psychiatric consultation to the MDT and the broader CAMHS team as necessary.
  • Assist the MDT in achieving their job plans, which include expectations of 16 clinical contacts per week (comprising one new assessment and 15 other clinical interactions) for staff without supervisory or management duties.
  • Engage with NHS England, Commissioners, and Tier 4 services when referrals to Tier 4 are warranted.
  • Participate in CRAFT and CPA meetings with Tier 4 services.

Additional Clinical and Management Duties

  • Contribute to the daytime duty consultant rota.
  • Provide consultant support to the Urgent Care Team when the UCT consultant is unavailable.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
  • Assist in the collection and monitoring of Clinical Outcome data to support the delivery of KPIs.
  • Participate in the senior management team (SMT) and attend monthly meetings.
  • Offer clinical supervision to junior medical staff and other MDT members as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols as required.
  • Provide teaching to colleagues, trainees, and medical students.
  • Engage in ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Participate in the CAMHS out-of-hours consultant rota.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • Section 12 MHA Approved.
  • Approved Clinician status or willingness to apply for approval.
  • Primary medical degree.
  • On the Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date).

Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent).
  • Additional postgraduate qualification relevant to child and adolescent work.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date).
  • Completed training for Clinical Supervisor role or willingness to attend training.

Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance/Care Quality.

  • Experience in teaching and supervising junior staff and other disciplines.
