Job Overview

GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Paediatric Palliative Care Specialist. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Louis Dundas Centre for Paediatric Palliative Care in the Blood Cells and Cancer Directorate.

The Louis Dundas Centre at GOSH is one of the leading paediatric palliative care teams in Europe, aiming to bring together academic research and clinical expertise to ensure that children, young people, and families have access to specialist care of the highest standard. The Centre is linked with the UCL Institute of Child Health.

This role will promote and support the delivery of all aspects of palliative and end-of-life care to GOSH patients referred from multiple sources within London and the South East of England. The team's activity is undertaken both on site and in the patients' homes, local hospital, or hospices.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-quality palliative care to patients and their families
  • Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans
  • Participating in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contributing to the development of policies and procedures related to palliative care
  • Providing education and training to healthcare professionals and students

Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess:

  • GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice
  • MRCP, MRCPCH, or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Paediatrics
  • CCT/CCST in Paediatric Palliative Medicine (PPM) or equivalent training and experience

Desirable criteria include higher degrees, formal teaching qualifications, and leadership or management qualifications.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in Paediatric palliative care, teaching students and multidisciplinary teams, and leading in clinical audit processes. They will also have published research in peer-reviewed journals and awareness of clinical governance.
