Lead Credit Risk Analyst - Full-time

The Credit Risk division plays a crucial role within the Conduct and Credit Risk framework at Yorkshire Building Society. We take pride in our collaborative approach, working closely with various departments including Trading, New Product Development, Direct and Intermediary Distribution, Finance, and Collections & Recoveries. Our goal is to effectively identify, mitigate, and manage conduct, credit, and operational risks, ensuring a positive experience for our customers while fostering sustainable growth and performance for our members. Ultimately, the Conduct and Credit Risk division enables Yorkshire Building Society to provide genuine assistance in a safe and responsible manner.

Role Overview

As a Lead Credit Risk Analyst, you will be an essential member of our team, utilizing your expertise in Credit Risk to support Yorkshire Building Society in achieving its objectives. You will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of stimulating projects and initiatives. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Overseeing the effectiveness of key credit risk controls, such as lending policies, affordability assessments, and scorecards. You will proactively identify potential risks and opportunities to ensure these controls remain robust and suitable, for instance, collaborating with Mortgage Trading to implement changes that maintain compliance with regulatory limits on higher-risk lending.
  • Facilitating the growth ambitions of Yorkshire Building Society while ensuring responsible lending practices. You will collaborate with other business areas to secure approvals for strategic modifications to our lending policies that support business expansion while managing credit risks effectively.
  • Conducting thorough analyses of portfolio and customer data. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the internal and external data available across the society, extracting insights to inform risk exposures and assurance levels within our retail lending portfolio.
  • Producing high-quality, insightful credit risk analytics. You will be responsible for generating credit risk analytics that provide valuable insights and can guide strategic decision-making.
  • Providing support to colleagues. You will leverage your expertise to assist team members and other departments with inquiries related to lending policies.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience in Credit Risk or similar analytical roles.
  • Proficient in data manipulation, with expertise in SAS (or comparable statistical software), SQL, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with the retail mortgage sector is advantageous, though experience in other financial services is also acceptable.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for identifying trends or concerns within data.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement, always seeking ways to enhance processes.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of presenting findings and influencing stakeholders at a senior level.
