About the Role

The British Medical Association (BMA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Deputy Head of General Practitioners Committee. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of healthcare provision in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of GP committees, as part of our GP Committees secretariat team within the National Negotiations & Representation (NNR) function.
  • Support committees that represent over 45,000 GPs and over 10,000 GP trainees across the UK.
  • Provide strategic advice to committee chairs and executive teams.
  • Oversee the progression of committee workstreams.
  • Independently lead on discrete projects.
  • Have day-to-day responsibility for the running of committee business.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable strategic awareness.
  • Highly adept influencing skills, with experience of handling complex situations requiring tact and discretion.
  • Previous experience of managing and motivating a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to build strong relationships with counterparts, stakeholders and senior colleagues.
  • Excellent writing skills, with experience of drafting high-quality, impactful policy reports and briefings which enable effective decision making.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive approach to work and problem-solving.
  • Experience of project management or having oversight of multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • A proactive approach to work and the ability to think quickly and respond to demands in a positive manner.
  • Ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly and undertake research and review of policy issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing the health sector and medical profession, in particular GPs, is desirable.
  • Preferably have experience of working with committees.
