About the Role: Deputy Head of GP Committees

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our National Negotiations & Representation (NNR) function as Deputy Head of GP Committees. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and support committees representing over 45,000 GPs and over 10,000 GP trainees across the UK.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance to committee chairs and executive teams on high-profile matters, including collaborations with government agencies and NHS England & Improvement.
  • Set clear objectives for committees and ensure their successful achievement.
  • Conduct thorough research and prepare comprehensive briefs and reports for committee members.
  • Collaborate with committee members and colleagues across the BMA to develop and implement impactful policy initiatives, offering strategic advice on issues within their remit.
  • Foster strong relationships and coordinate effectively with staff teams throughout the BMA.
  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to team members.
  • Oversee governance and budgetary arrangements for committees, including election processes.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional influencing skills with experience navigating complex situations requiring tact and discretion.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of building strong relationships with counterparts, stakeholders, and senior colleagues.
  • Strong writing skills, demonstrated by the ability to draft high-quality, impactful policy reports and briefings that facilitate effective decision-making.
  • Highly organized with a proactive approach to work and problem-solving.
  • Experience in project management or overseeing multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to teamwork.
  • Proactive work ethic and the ability to think critically and respond effectively to demands in a positive manner.
  • Ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly and conduct thorough research and review of policy issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing the healthcare sector and medical profession, particularly GPs, is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with committees is beneficial.
