Job Summary

The Senior Staff Nurse-Medical is a key member of the clinical team, responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. As deputy to the Sister/Charge Nurse, this role plays a crucial part in maintaining a professional and respectful atmosphere within the clinical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Provide sound leadership and motivation for staff, actively involved in recruitment, staff development reviews, and facilitating orientation and training programmes.
  • Clinical Governance: Work within the boundaries of clinical governance as defined by the Trust, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Communication and Liaison: Liaise with other relevant internal and external agencies to ensure optimum progression of care, facilitating effective communication between multidisciplinary teams and associate departments.
  • Staff Development and Support: Act as a mentor/assessor to junior staff, participate in enabling clinical supervision, and provide specialist knowledge and advice to nurses and junior medical staff.
  • Quality Improvement: Aim for proficiency in all appropriate extended practices within the defined clinical area, demonstrating up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively with the Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure that staff work effectively and possess the relevant clinical skills/knowledge to meet Departmental objectives.
