About Us:

As a water utility provider, we ensure that over 5.4 million residents and visitors in the Yorkshire region have access to clean and safe drinking water, while effectively managing wastewater services. Our commitment extends beyond basic services; we actively engage with communities, safeguard the environment, and plan for sustainable water management.

Your Role:

We are excited to announce an opening for a Corporate Affairs Manager (Policy and Programme) within our Corporate Affairs Leadership Team (CALT) in the Strategy & Regulation division.

In this role, you will be a vital member of the CALT, overseeing two staff members.

Reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs, you will spearhead the development of external policy positions and guide our interactions with regulatory stakeholders and national decision-makers.

As part of the management team, you will ensure that the Corporate Affairs function meets its objectives, assist in strategic planning, and drive outcomes for the team and the organization.

Alongside other CALT members, you will regularly prepare detailed reports for the company executive and Board.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading policy development initiatives, including setting the agenda for the internal Policy and Influencing Group and collaborating with subject matter experts to create reports and briefing materials.
  • Overseeing the Corporate Affairs program management, including central functions such as Board preparation, horizon scanning, and internal communications.
  • Acting as a senior spokesperson for the organization in public meetings with national stakeholders.
  • Ensuring clear policy positions are established across key areas and implementing influencing strategies as necessary.
  • Managing two team members focused on national and regulatory engagement and providing support across the regional scope of work.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in policy development, ideally within a civil service or think tank environment.
  • Ability to convey complex issues in straightforward and accessible language.
  • Proven track record of driving improvements within a team.
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, including strategy development for engagement.
  • Prior experience in incident management.
  • Experience in a senior public affairs role.
  • Background in representing a prominent organization in public forums.
  • Expertise in identifying reputational risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders across various organizations.
  • Experience as a member of a leadership team and engaging with Board members.

This role requires travel across Yorkshire, thus a valid UK driving license with no more than six points is necessary.

We support a flexible working model, but as a manager, you will need to meet the demands of your role, which may require additional hours for collaborative efforts, training, or meeting deadlines.

If you are an experienced professional in Policy or Corporate Affairs and are passionate about delivering exceptional service while protecting the environment, we encourage you to explore this opportunity further.

Recruitment Process: Following the application period, selected candidates will be invited for interviews with senior management.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the communities we serve, and we encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment checks, including a Basic Disclosure Check through a third-party company.

We reserve the right to close this position before the stated closing date if necessary.
