Employment Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, within the hours of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Our Mission:

We ensure that over 5.4 million residents and countless visitors in the Yorkshire region have access to reliable water services, providing clean and safe drinking water while managing wastewater effectively. Our commitment extends beyond basic services; we actively support communities, safeguard the environment, and plan for sustainable water management year-round.

Your Role:

We are seeking a Corporate Affairs Manager (Policy and Programme) to join our Corporate Affairs Leadership Team (CALT) within the Strategy & Regulation division.

In this role, you will be a vital member of the CALT, supervising two staff members and reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs. You will lead the development of external policy positions and manage our interactions with regulatory stakeholders and national decision-makers.

As part of the management team, you will help ensure that the Corporate Affairs function meets its strategic goals. You will collaborate with the Head of Corporate Affairs on strategic initiatives and drive outcomes that benefit the team, the organization, and our operational region.

In conjunction with your colleagues in the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team, you will regularly present detailed reports to the executive team and Board.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Proactively guide policy development, including setting the agenda for the internal Policy and Influencing Group, engaging with subject matter experts to prepare reports and briefing materials.
  • Oversee the Corporate Affairs program management, including central functions such as Board preparation, horizon scanning, team strategy, and internal communications.
  • Act as a senior representative for the organization in public meetings with national stakeholders, including Members of Parliament and political policy officials.
  • Ensure the organization maintains clear policy positions across all key areas, developing and implementing influencing strategies as necessary.
  • Manage two team members focused on national and regulatory engagement, as well as proactive regional outreach.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in policy development, ideally within a governmental or think tank setting.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in clear and understandable terms.
  • Proven track record of driving improvements within a team environment.
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, including strategy formulation.
  • Prior experience in incident management and senior public affairs roles.
  • Experience representing a prominent organization in public forums with national stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify reputational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders across various organizations.
  • Experience as a member of a leadership team and engaging with Board members.

This position requires travel across Yorkshire, necessitating a valid UK driving license with no more than six penalty points.

We promote a flexible working model, though as a manager, you will need to meet the demands of your role, which may require additional hours for collaborative efforts, training, or meeting deadlines. For those who prefer an on-site work environment, our office operates Monday to Friday during standard working hours.

If you are an experienced professional in Policy or Corporate Affairs and are passionate about delivering exceptional service while safeguarding the environment, we encourage you to explore this opportunity further.

Recruitment Process: Selected candidates will be invited for an interview with senior management.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the communities we serve and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment checks, including a Basic Disclosure Check, prior to starting employment. Depending on the role, security vetting may also be required.
