Role Overview

As a Project Manager, you will hold comprehensive responsibility for multiple external customer projects, each differing in budget, timelines, and complexity. You will collaborate closely with project delivery teams, technical leads, and managers to ensure that clear roles and responsibilities are established, enabling the successful definition, planning, and delivery of project objectives within time, quality, and cost parameters, ultimately achieving measurable benefits and ensuring customer satisfaction.

The National Biologics Manufacturing Centre offers a diverse array of bioprocessing and manufacturing challenges, including:

  • Accelerating and mitigating risks in the development of complex medicines, vaccine technologies, and advanced therapeutics.
  • Assisting the industry in adopting and implementing digital biopharma 4.0 technologies.
  • Partnering with leading academic institutions and industry players to foster innovative technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Project Manager will encompass (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Overseeing the management of project delivery teams, supporting technical leads to ensure clear roles, responsibilities, and objectives are defined and met, ensuring deliverables align with customer expectations.
  • Maintaining regular and detailed communication with all team members to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Managing deviations from the project plan in collaboration with customers and CPI delivery teams while maintaining focus on objectives and benefits.
  • Proactively identifying project risks and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Supporting project tasks as required.
  • Motivating the project team and providing clear direction.
  • Executing the project lessons learned process to maximize learning opportunities and implement improvements based on feedback.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a relevant project or technical background with experience in managing multiple projects. A proactive team player with a positive attitude is essential for success in this role.

A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or a Business-related field, along with relevant industry experience or significant experience in a Project Management role, is required.

Proven experience in building strong relationships across various functions and levels within an organization, delivering technical and multidisciplinary projects on time, and managing multiple concurrent projects is essential.

Candidates should possess an understanding of commercial aspects to effectively contribute to project scope, definition, and control, including quoting, contract agreements, and change control.

Demonstrable experience in managing projects with budgets exceeding £K and proficiency in financial and project performance processes is necessary.

Candidates must be financially savvy, capable of managing project budgets, controlling costs, and accurately forecasting using relevant cost inputs. Proficiency in financial reporting and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for communication is required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in managing R&D projects with high levels of uncertainty in a scientific context is advantageous.

Familiarity with the requirements and reporting needs of both public and private projects is desirable.

A background in Life Sciences and possession of a Project Management qualification, such as APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or an International Project Management Association (IPMA) Level D qualification, is preferred.
