Role Overview

As a Project Manager, you will assume overall responsibility for multiple external customer projects, each varying in budget, timeline, and complexity. You will collaborate closely with project delivery teams, technical leads, and managers to clearly define roles and responsibilities, ensuring project objectives are effectively planned and delivered to meet time, quality, and cost targets, thereby achieving measurable benefits and enhancing customer satisfaction.

The National Biologics Manufacturing Centre presents a variety of bioprocessing and manufacturing challenges, including:

  • Accelerating the development of complex medicines and advanced therapeutics.
  • Assisting the industry in adopting digital biopharma 4.0 technologies.
  • Partnering with leading academic institutions and industry players to foster technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing project delivery teams to ensure clear roles, responsibilities, and objectives are established and met.
  • Maintaining consistent and detailed communication with all team members to ensure clarity.
  • Managing deviations from the project plan while ensuring objectives and benefits are not compromised.
  • Proactively identifying project risks and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Supporting project tasks as needed.
  • Motivating the project team and providing direction.
  • Executing the project lessons learned process to maximize learning and implement improvements.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a relevant project or technical background with experience in managing multiple projects. A proactive team player with a positive attitude is essential for success in this role.

A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or a Business-related field, along with relevant industry experience or significant experience in a Project Management role, is required.

Candidates should have a proven track record of establishing strong relationships across various functions and levels within an organization, ensuring timely delivery of technical and multidisciplinary projects while managing multiple concurrent initiatives.

An understanding of commercial aspects is essential for contributing to project scope, definition, and control, including quoting, contract agreements, and change control.

Experience managing projects with budgets exceeding £K and proficiency in financial and project performance processes are required.

Candidates must possess strong financial management skills, capable of overseeing project budgets, controlling costs, and accurately forecasting expenses. Proficiency in financial reporting and experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for communication are essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience managing R&D projects in a scientific environment is preferred.

Familiarity with the requirements and reporting needs of public and private projects is advantageous.

A background in Life Sciences and possession of a Project Management qualification, such as APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or an equivalent IPMA Level D qualification, is desirable.
