Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a vital member of the haematology unit. We are in search of an enthusiastic, proactive, and skilled nurse to take on the role of Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse Consultant. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Bone Marrow Transplant Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

The role requires the ability to operate independently as well as within both the immediate and broader team. Experience in caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy is preferred, along with advanced nursing skills, as this position will involve leading nurse-led clinics.

Consideration may be given for a developmental position from Band 6 to Band 7 for the right individual.

Key Responsibilities

The Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse Consultant (BMT NC) will function as an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), acting as an autonomous, professional, and driven clinical practitioner. They will be responsible for delivering a specialized cancer nursing service in collaboration with the BMT Advanced Clinical Practitioner and the JACIE team. The BMT NC will advocate for clinical excellence and provide specialized guidance and support to patients referred to the organization on the transplant pathway, ensuring that practice is patient-centered and evidence-based. The Nurse Consultant will be a positive change agent, equipped with the expertise and advanced skills necessary to interpret and convey specialized knowledge. They will ensure that evidence-based practices within the specialty are promoted throughout the organization, consistently supporting the delivery of compassionate, safe, and high-quality care for all patients.

Job Duties

To support the provision of high-quality individualized patient care by demonstrating exemplary nursing practice and implementing evidence-based care, in alignment with the Trust Nursing Strategy, which encompasses the 6Cs.

Collaborate closely with the BMT Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Quality Manager, and Clinical Programme Director to continuously evaluate the service and prepare for forthcoming inspections.

Ensure compliance with Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) standards and revalidation, as well as Trust professional guidelines, applying these to practice.

Assess complex patients, planning, implementing, and reviewing care within various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and community environments, while maintaining accurate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with NMC requirements.

Education Requirements

Essential Qualifications

Registered Nurse Level 1 with NMC registration Specialty qualification at Master's Level or equivalent knowledge and experience (or actively pursuing a Master's) Qualification in Oncology and/or Haematology Teaching & Assessing qualification or equivalent experience.

Desirable Qualifications

Leadership qualification Master's qualification ICH, GCP certification

Significant post-registration experience Extensive experience working at Band 6 Experience in staff development and training. Proven track record of implementing changes to enhance services and patient experiences.

Desirable Experience

Experience in Risk Management and incident investigation. Evidence of involvement in advocacy for service users and resolution of complaints.
