Position Overview

Organization: NHS Trust

The successful candidate will take on a pivotal role within the Ophthalmology Department, focusing on the Cornea and Anterior Segment sub-specialty. This position is designed to enhance and broaden the existing services offered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage outpatient clinics dedicated to Cornea and Anterior Segment care, supported by a team of specialty doctors, trainees, optometrists, and orthoptists.
  • Oversee theatre sessions with a dedicated staff to perform a variety of surgical procedures, including corneal transplants and cataract operations.
  • Engage in the education and training of junior doctors and specialty trainees within the department.
  • Collaborate with a team of senior medical professionals, including Consultants and Specialty and Associate Specialists (SAS).

Consultant Duties

The role includes providing cover for colleagues during their absence, participating in an on-call rota, and engaging in clinical governance and risk management activities.

Leadership and Development

As a senior member of the management team, you will support the Clinical Lead in developing policies and strategies, contributing to the leadership and enhancement of services in alignment with organizational objectives.

Compliance and Governance

Work within the framework of clinical governance, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures, and participating in incident investigations and reporting.

This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a disclosure submission to the appropriate service for any prior criminal convictions.
