About the Role

As a Painter & Decorator, you'll bring your artistic flair and technical skills to transform spaces. You'll be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paint and decorative finishes, and ensuring a high-quality finish on a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting or decorating, including cleaning, sanding, and patching.
  • Apply paint, wallpaper, and other decorative finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers.
  • Ensure a smooth and even finish by carefully applying multiple coats of paint or wallpaper.
  • Follow safety guidelines and use appropriate protective equipment.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong practical skills and attention to detail are essential for this role.
  • A creative eye and the ability to work with different colors and textures are highly valued.
  • Excellent numeracy skills are required for calculating surface areas and quantities of materials.
  • The ability to follow instructions carefully and work efficiently is crucial.

Training & Development

Leeds College of Building offers a range of Painting & Decorating courses, including full-time study programmes, part-time options, and apprenticeships. Entry requirements may vary depending on the chosen course.

Salary Expectations

Salaries for Painters & Decorators can vary based on experience and specialization:

  • Newly trained decorators: £17,000 - £20,000 per year.
  • Experienced decorators: £20,000 - £30,000 per year.
  • Senior/Master decorators: £30,000 - £50,000 per year.
  • Self-employed decorators set their own rates.
