ECO Magazine is seeking a highly skilled Marine Robotics Technologist to join our team at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

This role will require the day-to-day leadership and mentoring of a group of three junior technicians deploying the National Centre for Coastal Technology's autonomous capability to deliver Plymouth Marine Laboratory's (PML) digital strategy.

The successful candidate will have experience in an associated field and will be familiar with a range of surface and subsurface marine autonomous platforms. PML is seeking a passionate individual who is driven to develop technology solutions to enhance PML's scientific capability. You must be a strong team player who will integrate and work well within PML's National Centre for Coastal Autonomy (NCCA) team but also with technical teams across various collaborating organizations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the deployment of autonomous platforms and ensure seamless integration with PML's digital strategy.
  2. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of marine electronics and component integration.
  3. Collaborate with external companies to integrate and prototype technologies using the Smart Sound platforms.
  4. Work closely with the NCCA team to develop and implement optimized deployment protocols.
  5. Ensure the successful operation of autonomous platforms in a highly pressurized environment.

The role is based in our laboratory in Plymouth, with an open-ended appointed contract of 37 hours per week. You will have a generous 30 days of annual leave plus 8 days of public holiday and 2.5 days of privilege leave (dates set by PML), a company pension with up to 10% company matched contributions, and a host of other benefits such as access to union membership, welfare, and sports societies.
