Position Overview

Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer for Vehicle Management Solutions

Location: Flexible working arrangements available

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the FalconWorks Systems Delivery and platform teams in evaluating and selecting innovative solutions for future Vehicle Management Systems.
  • Translate platform operational concepts into comprehensive Vehicle Management System specifications and designs.
  • Create a VMS System Architecture by integrating external commercial off-the-shelf systems, internal solutions, and organizational expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with the Vehicle Systems team to enhance interface and control strategies for Air Vehicle Sub-systems.
  • Work in partnership with Commercial and Procurement teams to provide technical guidance during supplier management, contract discussions, and risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the design and functioning of system test rigs.
  • Integrate the VMS with onboard Vehicle Systems and Ground Control Systems.
  • Support System Safety initiatives, including Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Facilitate the qualification of the VMS for flight through the preparation of clearance documentation.
  • Assist in platform flight trials.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of safety-critical airborne control systems, with experience in Flight Control and Vehicle Sub-system management.
  • Expertise in Interfacing and Control Techniques across both digital and analogue domains.
  • Proven experience throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, with the ability to articulate clear and concise requirements and understand the principles of Requirements Management.
  • Familiarity with the physical, functional, and performance challenges associated with developing safety-critical Airborne Vehicle Control systems.
  • Experience in constructing safety-critical control system architectures, operationalizing these systems, and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Ability to analyze test data to identify issues or demonstrate compliance with requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of digital communication interfaces, including Ethernet, 1394b, 1553, RS-422/485, etc.
  • Understanding of other Vehicle systems such as Power Generation, Flight Actuation, Fuel Systems, and Hydraulic Power systems.
  • Experience in defining and modeling system functionality and behavior using tools like Simulink, Cameo, or similar.
  • Familiarity with requirements management and functional/behavioral toolsets such as DOORS, UML, and SysML.
