Role Overview:

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Systems Delivery and platform teams in evaluating and selecting innovative solutions for future Vehicle Management Systems (VMS). Your responsibilities will include:

  • Refining operational concepts into detailed VMS requirements and design specifications.
  • Developing a comprehensive VMS System Architecture by integrating external commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems, internally developed systems, and leveraging prior organizational experience.
  • Collaborating closely with the Vehicle Systems team to enhance interface and control strategies for Air Vehicle Sub-systems.
  • Working in partnership with Commercial and Procurement teams to provide technical guidance during supplier management, contract discussions, and risk assessments.
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of system test rigs.
  • Integrating the VMS with onboard Vehicle Systems and Ground Control Systems.
  • Supporting System Safety initiatives, including Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Generating clearance documentation to qualify the VMS for flight.
  • Facilitating platform flight trials.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of safety-critical airborne control systems, with experience in Flight Control and Vehicle Sub-system management.
  • Proficiency in Interfacing and Control Techniques across both digital and analog domains.
  • Experience throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, with the ability to articulate clear and concise requirements and an understanding of Requirements Management principles.
  • Familiarity with the physical, functional, and performance challenges associated with developing safety-critical Airborne Vehicle Control systems.
  • Experience in constructing safety-critical control system architectures, operationalizing these systems, and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Ability to analyze test data to identify issues or demonstrate compliance with requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of digital communication interfaces, such as Ethernet, 1394b, 1553, RS-422/485, etc.
  • Understanding of other Vehicle systems, including Power Generation, Flight Actuation, Fuel Systems, and Hydraulic Power systems.
  • Experience in defining and modeling system functionality and behavior using tools like Simulink, Cameo, or similar.
  • Familiarity with requirements management and functional/behavioral toolsets such as DOORS, UML, and SysML.
