About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated nurse to join our Lung Team as a Band 6 - Support Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of Lung cancer management in secondary care and develop key CNS skills in a supportive environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert cancer supportive care to patients with Lung cancers, their relatives, and carers.
  • Work closely with the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist and the Respiratory Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to deliver an exceptional standard of nursing care.
  • Be part of an established, integrated cancer and palliative care service that influences care by specialist practice, encompassing advanced clinical practice, education, and evidence-based learning.
Key Objectives
  • To support the current Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in implementing NICE Lung Supportive and Palliative Care Guidance.
  • To work collaboratively with referring GPs and all members of the extended multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • To support the educational needs of staff working in the breast and oncology departments to ensure expertise has maximum impact.

Person Specification
  • Qualifications
    • Essential: ORGN minimum, relevant related post-graduation certificate in cancer/palliative care/respiratory disease, willingness to study to degree level, undertake a competency programme.
    • Desirable: appropriate degree.
  • Experience
    • Essential: understanding experience of autonomous working, experience of teaching/education, ability to set and establish priorities, working and supporting Lung cancer care patients/families.
    • Desirable: experience of managing a patient caseload, management experience (ward management).
  • Skills
    • Essential: good knowledge base of Lung cancer, awareness of pain and symptom control, awareness of psychological issues, awareness of current political issues and NHS changes, Cancer Reform Strategy, awareness, understanding and application of current evidence-based practice.
    • Desirable: demonstrate having used research in practice, knowledge of participation in audit.
