Blackpool, Blackpool, United Kingdom Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you someone who has navigated the complexities of mental health services and has experience as a recovery support specialist in Early Intervention programs? If you are eager to leverage your journey to assist others and their families who are currently engaged with these services, we invite you to consider this opportunity.

Do you possess the ability to instill hope and confidence in the recovery process, empowering individuals to pursue their aspirations and objectives?

If you are open to sharing your personal experiences, we are seeking Recovery Support Specialists with firsthand knowledge of mental health services to join our East Early Intervention team.

Ideal Personal Attributes for the Role:

A deep empathic understanding of a service user's experience during their time in a mental health inpatient facility, complemented by the following skills:

  • Capacity to promote engagement, along with strong communication skills or a willingness to enhance these abilities
  • Ability to listen impartially and to appreciate multiple perspectives on an issue
  • Skill in providing constructive feedback
  • Capability to utilize personal experiences positively while being mindful of your own recovery journey
  • Approachability, honesty, and a collaborative spirit to work effectively within a team

The successful candidate will be part of our East Lancashire Early Intervention Service.

Key Responsibilities

The essence of peer support lies in the understanding that those who have traversed similar paths are uniquely positioned to guide others on their recovery journeys. This role will also support individuals in exploring career opportunities within the NHS.

As a Recovery Support Specialist, you will provide structured peer support and practical guidance to service users, enabling them to regain autonomy over their lives and navigate their individual recovery processes. You will accompany service users throughout their recovery journey, assisting them in taking initial steps in various areas based on their personal recovery stage, such as engaging in recovery activities, volunteering, and contemplating initial employment steps.

Your role will encompass both individual and group sessions, where you will aid service users in developing essential pre-vocational skills. You will deliver pre-vocational interventions designed to enhance confidence, work readiness, establish daily routines, and engage in opportunities that facilitate recovery.

Recovery Support Specialists draw upon their lived experiences to inspire hope and elevate aspirations, thereby increasing access to employment support for service users. You will also encourage a recovery-oriented mindset among your colleagues.
