About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Head of Credit Underwriting and Risk Management at GB Bank Limited. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our credit underwriting and financial crime teams, driving business growth while ensuring prudent risk management practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Credit Underwriting Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of commercial credit underwriters, responsible for assessing creditworthiness, determining risk exposure, and structuring loan facilities for SME clients.
  • Technical Lead: Be the technical lead for the Lending Policy and its supporting policies, ensuring alignment with the Bank's Policies, Risk Framework, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Process Optimization: Review and implement first-line credit underwriting processes and procedures to optimize lending decision making while maintaining prudent risk management practices.
  • Credit Assessment: Oversee the end-to-end credit assessment process, including risk analysis, financial modeling, and due diligence, to make informed lending decisions.
  • Delegated Lending Authority: Design and review delegated lending authority structures and utilize personal delegated lending authority for complex cases.
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor credit portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and implement proactive strategies to mitigate potential losses.
  • Training and Quality Assurance: Manage the onboarding, training, and assessment of new underwriters and oversee first-line lending Quality Assurance relating to underwriting decisions.
  • Financial Crime Prevention: Oversee the first-line financial crime team, responsible for preventing, detecting, and mitigating financial crime risks within the SME lending portfolio.
Requirements
  • Extensive Credit Underwriting Experience: Proven track record of managing SME property lending portfolios in the banking or financial services industry.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate high-performing teams, drive change initiatives, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Credit Risk Assessment: Deep understanding of credit risk assessment methodologies, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance risk and reward in lending decisions.
  • Financial Crime Compliance: Strong understanding of financial crime compliance requirements, including AML, CTF, and sanctions regulations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrable ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: £90,000 - £105,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
